History
Alaçatı became an Ottoman town in 14th century. Some say Alaçatı was originally settled by the Greeks in the 17th Century. The Greek population of Alaçatı was forced to leave in 1914. In 1923 Muslims from different regions settled in the houses build by the Greeks and most of these houses still remain in Alaçatı.

Alaçatı today
Alaçatı is a very historical town in Turkey with narrow streets, stone houses, boutique hotels and plenty of nice restaurants with tables on the street. If you walk through this town you really get the feeling you walk in Greece. The old stone houses have been beautifully restored. Everywhere are painted wooden window shutters and colorful flowers. Many of the houses have been converted to boutique hotels, bars, cafes and shops. Exploring the side streets that run off Kemal Pasa Street gives a fairy-tale like experience. In the evening time the town gets even more vibrant and is crowded with high class Turkish and Foreign quality tourists. The 19th century windmill that overlooks the town is a popular picture spot. The area is also known because of the famous Alaçatı Port development, created by the architect Francois Spoerry and his son. Apart from the many quality beach clubs in this Area, Alaçatı is also nominated by numerous windsurfing magazines as the best spot for beginners to learn windsurfing. In the Alaçatı bays international tournaments like PWA are hold. Real estate in Alaçatı and Real Estate in Çeşme is very popular among the high society of Turkey.

Where is Alaçatı?
Alaçatı is located very close to the 0-31 which is a highway with 3 lanes linking Izmir with Çeşme. It takes about 45 minutes from Alaçatı to Izmir. The village lies 8 km east from Çeşme. There are hourly shuttle busses from the airport in Izmir to Çeşme and minibuses which can bring you to Çeşme center as well.
