First renewable energy exporters’ association to be opened in Izmir

Renewable energy in Izmir

The Aegean Exporters Association EİB, announced that the first Renewable Energy Equipment and Exporters Association will be established in Izmir. Izmir is also known as “The wind capital of Turkey. 

The head coordinator of the EİB mentioned in an interview the new association will help companies to join their strengths by gathering them and combine the Research and Development in the renewable energy sector. The coordinator stated that Turkey has achieved much progress in renewable energy equipment production. At this point Turkey is able to produce wind turbines almost 100% in their own country.

The association will start to gather 309 renewable energy companies, 200 of them are located in Izmir. The firms will be analysed according to their production, exports and services. 

A part of the association’s activities will involve a coding system for renewable energy exports. At this moment there is no harmonized code system in Turkey for renewable energy export products, therefore as HS code system will be introduced. The first steps will be taken in the closed future to unite the companies which matching HS codes which will be introduced by the union.

The organization ENSIA in Izmir

The organization ENSIA is working together with the Izmir Development Agency to analyse the 309 renewable energy companies that joined the Clean Energy study called CLEANMATRIX.

The results showed that 67% of the firms are exporters, 90% have raised their profits and 83% have increased their profitability the last 2 years. Field research also shows that Turkey’s renewable energy equipment exports amounts to more than $500 million per year.

Because of the local increasing need of capacity and more demand from abroad the importance of coordination and collaboration in this sector becomes more prominent in Izmir. The association will also be a point of contact for international investors who are planning to enter the Turkish market.
